Che Mat's Engagement Ceremony

Che Mat’s Engagement – Hantaran Cake, The Red Roses.
Che Mat is my cousin from my mother’s side. His mother is my mom’s younger sister. We ( my siblings and I) have been calling him Che Mat since he was born and we totally forgotten his real name until I received his e-mail……
He had informed me more than a month before the event and since I had promised him to sponsor the cake, I had ample time to plan on what I wanted to do and the theme was silver and white.
I made three big red roses (one broken, have to take it out) and three small buds, a few sweet peas and berries (I forgot the name) I can say I had greatly improved in making the sugar roses and I still remembered my Facilitator/Trainer, Rosalind, told me “If possible all your sugar flowers must be ‘botanically correct’ so it will look lively, lovely and real”.
I used painting technique on the cake and a lot of edible luster silver dust. Do you know you can put this silver dust as a make-up if you are having a funky or retro party? Put on the eye lid, bling-bling, looks fantastic…….
Back to Che Mat, since the venue will be held somewhere in Temoh, Perak, more than 150 km away from Kota Damansara, I had to think of a cake and design that’s “durable” and able to withstand the weather since it will held at noon.
So, walla…as shown in the photo, a chocolate cake with fondant icing – I was very happy of the outcome. However, just a few kilometers before reaching the venue, we nearly met disaster when my sister, the driver, swerved the vehicle at a sharp corner, the cake slide in the box; luckily the cake board was large enough that acts as a stopper -lesson learned – must put an anti-slip rubber under the cake board too.
I managed to take a few snapshot of his fiancĂ©e, ……mmmm she looks like Che Mat la……
The event went well and lunch was superb – got Ikan masin (salted fish) with chillies, fried to perfection….yum, yum……should ask the host to “tapou”……

Shahiza's Wedding Cake

This was a three tiered cake, a 9 inch dark chocolate, 7 inch white chocolate and a 6 inch dome to accentuate the height.
Chocolate truffles and chocolate decorations with contrasting colors, white and pink loved shaped royal icing as an ensemble to enhance the overall decoration.
I tried to set-up a few of the white chocolate decorations to the cake earlier before delivery at site; however the warm weather does not allowed it. The white chocolate decorations just “curved” its way to gravity.
By the time I reached the venue, it was already 6.30 pm, Alhamdulillah, the temperature had cooled down. I was glad everything turn-up well except for the workers/contractors were also busy setting up the tent, the PA system, table and chairs, sound of hammer everywhere, very chaotic, I had to move the cake frequently to allow the workers/contractors to do the table skirting. The workers keep on saying to me…..Sori kak, sori kak, with a Bangla twang.

Shahiza's hantaran cake

This love shaped pink cake was from the groom to the bride, Shahiza. This cake was a vanilla cake with chocolate ganache fillings.
The cake was adorned with royal icing flowers. Royal icing flowers took at least one to four days to really dried, depends on the “thickness” of the flowers. It will be easily brittle if it not totally dried.

Syarina's Wedding Cake

This 2 tiered cake’s size was chocolate cake, 9 inch and mud cake, 7 inch, accompanied with 10 mini chocolate cakes. Due to transportation and warm weather, the cake surface doesn’t look smooth when I arrived at the venue. The condition of the cake deteriorate after I’ve been told the air-conditioner had just been turn on a few minutes. I was sweating during the set-up, maybe the warm weather higher than usual makes the air cond took quite a while to cool down the hall.
The bottom tier was heavy even though it looks small. Squares cake usually 30% heavier than a round cake with the same size.
The design idea was from the client’s. I was not satisfied with the outcome because the brown color seems to fade a little due to the white light and a good reason for me to purchase an air brush. Certain colors will fade through time if been exposed to white light, example brown, purple and black.

Zuraidah's Wedding Day : Wedding Cake and Cupcakes Combo

It was a chocolate cake with fondant icing and chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache topping. The ceremony was held at the Bride’s house, Ms. Zuraidah, Taman Gembira, Kelang. It was hot and humid day. When we arrived around noon, the chocolate ganache looks glossy and through experience, the temperature should be around 34
0Celsius. It was fortunate her house located near “ a padang ” and its windy.

Actually the bride and groom should have worn pink attire, however, both of them were so busy attending to the guest, they don’t have the time to change. Anyway, Selamat Pengantin Baru!!!.

Soccer Ball Cake

This was my fist attempt to do a soccer ball. Before finishing, it was covered with chocolate ganache and at the same time my friend drop by to collect her cupcakes.
She saw the “work-in-progress” cake on the table and said the cake looks like a beehive rather than a ball.
This cake was for a fourteen years old boy and I’ve been told by his mother he’s just been discharged from a hospital for a minor surgery. Hope he like the cake.

Pull-Apart Cupcake

Farewell Cupcakes

This cupcake was ordered by Ms Barbara. She’s leaving the company and these cupcakes were for her colleagues as a token of appreciation.

Seenfullysedap’s cake debut in Pengantin Magazine

Our Cake appears in May 09 Pengantin Magazine!!! Hooray!!!!. However, there’s no write-up about the cake……..the magazine focused on the event only. This cake was made for Emma’s solemnization and the cake was featured in our blog somewhere in February. =)

Pull-Apart Cupcake

Actually this was a medium size cupcakes arranged closely and iced with chocolate ganache. So at one glance you will see a piece of odd shaped cake. Cute right?!

Doll Sponge Cake

This doll sponge cake has 3 layers of chocolate sponge cake and 3 layers of Vanilla sponge cake, with fresh cream filling. This cake was for a 5 years old girl and celebrated at her kindergarten. As usual her mother informed me the doll skirting already full of fingerprint marks 10 minutes before the cake been cut and served.

Cupcakes for Girl Guide

~All pictures credit to Puan Ungku Mariam, thank you~
A teacher ordered cupcakes for their jumble sale to raise funds. Usually I’ll give a discounted price if for a good cause. I was informed the funds will be used to build their own Girl Guide Building in Selangor. The jumble sale was held on 18 April at Dataran Merdeka, Shah Alam.

The Engagement Cake - Ivory color

This was the first time someone ordered an ivory engagement cake. Mmm…I had to “crack” my head what is the most suitable design. The product as shown, I was really happy the client love it and informed me he had never seen this type of design. Actually, I browsed the internet and find the “Patchwork” technique by Marion Frost. Her technique is very simple yet elegant and time saving.

Brownies - Gift Ideas

Of late I received many orders for “the bite size” brownies. Usually I’ll pack in a small box that contains 21 pieces of brownies at RM10.

Minimum 3 boxes per order

Ice-Cream Cake - The Tragedy

Heartache, heartache, all the time I spent in creating this unique ice-cream cake for someone special, my sister, turned into a squashy, messy thing… look like the “innards” of the brain oozing from the skull!!! .Just one simple problem…miss-communication!!!!.
The story goes …..When I reached the restaurant, I gave the cake box to one of the supervisor to keep the cake in the FREEZER, and I stressed to him that the box contain ice-cream cake. In fact I wrote on the box “ice cream cake”. He just nodded, took the cake box and pass to a waiter.
So after having a one and the half hours of scrumptious buffet dinner we are ready to celebrate, so I went to the supervisor asking for the cake. I saw the waiter went to the chiller where they kept the canned drinks. Oh my god!!! I got a bad felling the cake will crumble with the melted ice cream!!!. And true enough it crumbles beyond repaired. I was so pissed off!!!!. My serotonin level in my brain started to irritate me. I don’t know what I said to the supervisor and the waiter, I said #@%%## …I just remember one sentence I said to him. “Do you know the difference between a FREEZER and CHILLER!!!???.
The supervisor took the cake and put into the freezer.
I just took a deep breath as to control my anger and informed my brother-in-law to call-off the birthday cake. He too looked disappointed.
When the function was over, the supervisor came to me and asks whether we would like to take the cake home. By then my anger already subsided, I refused to take the cake and told him to train the staff properly on the difference between FREEZER, FRIDGE and CHILLER.
Lesson learned: Next time if you give an ice cream cake to a waiter/supervisor to be kept in the FREEZER, follow him to the kitchen personally to ensure they really put in the FREEZER!!!

DEPOSITS, PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION
RM 50 Deposit is required to reserve your date. In the event of cancellation, your deposit is NON- REFUNDABLE. If wedding is 2 weeks or less, full payment is required.

50% payment must be done 1 month prior to the event, and another 50%, 2 weeks before the event. If payment is not made by your specific date agreed, your cake will not be delivered.

CHANGE IN DESIGN
Any changes in design and size of cake will be allowed at least 3 weeks prior to the wedding date. A new calculation of pricing will be given.

SET-UP AND DELIVERY
We strongly recommend having us deliver and set-up your cake. Everything will be taken care of. Delivery fees may be applied.

If you wish to pick-up your wedding cake, we will put in a box (cost may apply) and ensure the box place on a flat surface. Actually speed is not an issue but the sudden brakes and taking corners fast will make the cake topple, especially for tiered cake.

RENTAL ITEMS
There is a deposit & rental fee on all wedding cake stand, fully refundable, when undamaged stands is returned at least 3 days after the wedding.

MATCHING COLOURS
In order to match specific wedding party colors/theme on the wedding cake, the bride/groom must supply color samples at least 4 weeks prior to the wedding date. If no samples of colors are supplied, the cake colors will be generic, not specific colors.

NON EDIBLES MATERIALS
We will not be responsible for any NON EDIBLES placed in/on the cake, examples pins, pearls, fake flowers. These items must be taken off before cake is consumed.

We will not recommend using fresh flowers on your cake because Malaysia’s fresh flowers have traces of insecticides / pesticides on it. However, fresh flowers can be placed or arranged on the table around the cake.

PRECAUTION FOR OUTDOOR RECEPTION

Malaysian wedding usually held outdoor, it is less ideal for the wedding cake. Please aware of the following items which happened in the past and through our experience.

TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY
These two are arch enemies of wedding cake. Usually we will advice the bride/groom to do buttercream cake if the function is held outdoor. Fondant icing cake will melt in high humidity, especially during the rainy season. If held indoor with an air-condition hall, it’s alright to have fondant icing cake. However, if you insisted on fondant icing cake for outdoor function, we will not be responsible for what "they" will do to your cake.

UNINVITED GUEST, FLIES, BUGS
Don't forget that you are invading their territory, so bugs and creepy crawler are going to lingers checking out your cake.

LOCATION OF THE CAKE TO BE PLACED DURING THE EVENT
The cake must be under a tent or shelter.
Avoid placing the cake at an entry / foyer where guest may bottleneck around it and may bump into it.
Keep it out of the sun. Please plan for the angle of the sun as the day goes on. A solid drape or tent flap should be in place to shade the cake

THE CAKE’S TABLE
The table must be sturdy and level. We reserve the right to refuse the table if it’s on a significant angle. Gravity has a way of winning over the cake.
The table must be on a solid ground. If on a temporary surface, like on a wedding dais / stage, the floor might “flex”.

For outdoor reception, usually the table is place on a grass; make sure the ground is not soft. The weight of the cake or someone leaning the table may cause the legs to sink into the ground.

*This list will be put in a link on the sidebar for future references.

Wedding Cake : Fondant icing

My client ordered this cake for his sister’s wedding in Ipoh .
At first, I was quite reluctant to take his order taking into account he wanted a 2 tier fondant cake and he would personally bring the cake to Ipoh, a 2 hours journey!!!, first thing crosses my mind, my cake will look like “a Collapsed Highland Tower”!!!.
I suggested just single fondant cake, but his insistence makes me give up. I informed him of the consequences of the journey, speed is never the issue, but the sudden brakes and turning corners fast. He assured me he would take the risk.
I make a small 2 tiered cakes, 8 inches and 6 inches diameter cake, height of the cake 8 inches. The bottom tier was butter cake, top tier chocolate cake. I never anticipated the cakes look real cute……. To ensure the top tier would not topple from the bottom tier, I inserted a dowel right through the middle of both cakes.
Packed in a box, ensure less movement in the box; put a few Styrofoams and ready to go. He collected from my premises in the morning and I have to put a few rolls of newspaper at the front seat to level the box, under the box, I put one “anti-slip” rubber matt. Before his departure, again I reminded him the do’s and don’ts during the journey. It started to rain a few minutes after his departure.
Everything goes well in Ipoh , the cake still stands with the test of speed, time and weather, only a few broken pieces of gumpaste flowers.
