Pillow Cake - Mustard Yellow Color with Peonies

This yellow mustard pillow cake sort like a short notice order. The hydrangeas were not fully hardened when I placed it beside the cake, a few broken petals can be easily seen.

Boxes of Flowers -Mr Mikael's

I was commissioned to make a hantaran cake for Mr. Mikael's wedding. Actually his friend, Ms Shalieza who ordered or I presumed she sponsored the cake. She went through my blog and not really sure what she wanted, end up, she gave me freedom to create whatever I fancy, she just gave her budget and the theme color. Since she gave me more than 2 weeks lead time, I have ample time to plan what I wanted to do. All these gum paste flowers, the roses and the hydrangeas, were handmade.  Actually, I'm quite surprised myself, the overall decoration of the cake was absolutely magnificent.........( Soon I'll post Mr. Mikael's wedding photo)

Three Little Wedding Gowns

These three little wedding gowns were for an engagement hantaran. The client had shown the tray where the cake board to be placed. The cake board cannot be more than 9 inches in diameter and the client requested mini cake wedding gowns for the hantaran. Initially, there should be four mini wedding cakes, however after covering with fondant, I could not squeezed all the four cakes on the cake board, quite frustrating!!.

I'm not really satified with the end product, many mistakes during the process of decorating, anyway blame on my flu.......

Hantaran Cake - Dianah

The client wanted two figurine on the cake, complete with traditional attire.

Hantaran Cake - Pillow Cake

In my opinion, the gum paste orchid flowers should be the smaller version. Due to its size the pillow was overwhelm by the orchid.

Hantaran Cake - Pillow Cake - Sabrina

This pillow cake was inspired from the 60's fashion pillow. Since the theme color was lilac, peach and baby blue, the overall appearances was quite subdued.

Ani Zayanah Ibrahim's Wedding Cake

This two tiered buttercream wedding cake consisted of Chocolate and Coconut Cake.

Hantaran Cake

This was a last minute order. Not satisfied with the flowers though. Due to time constraint, I don't have time to brush the dust color properly onto the gum paste flowers.

Engagements: Abdullah Khubayb and Raja Nadia Sabrina's Hantaran

Sabrina requested a pillow cake with flowers adorned on the pillow. Actually, based on my original design, there should be an embroidery design on the pillow, however I had to change to other design because she requested to deliver earlier on the eleventh hour. In fact, the purple peony flower should be brush again with pink edible powder for enhancement but due to time constraint I have to let go.

I am not satisfied with the outcome because in my opinion the overall look of the design looks rather pale. However, based on the feedback, she seems to love it =)

Wedding : Che Mat's Wedding experience

I reached Ipoh at 10.30 am and straight away set up the tiers trays for the cupcake tree. Since it were a small size cupcakes and could not found a suitable container to fit in, I have to improvise the casing by putting a cardboard with a hole in the middle so that the cupcake will stay put.

Che Mat also ordered a two tiered cake for the cake cutting ceremony that was held at night, so meanwhile the cake was stashed away in the fridge.

It was really a hot day and I lost count how many times I took the “cendol” to quench my thirst. With the hot weather I don’t have the appetite to eat the “nasi minyak” and the “rendang”. I could not stand the weather and make a move to my brother’s house in Ipoh and took a nap in an air cond room.....ooo its heaven......

After Maghrib, we went to Che Mat’s house. The two boxes of cake had been taken out from the fridge. My god, what a surprised!, the cake looks soo wet, the humidity may cause the frosting to weep with small droplets of moisture that collect in puddles on top and roll down the sides and puddle at the base of the cake. The water just flow like a miniture waterfall on the surface of the cake. I never had this before!!!. I tried to keep calm, took a deep breath, sweats like after running 500 meters dash. I tried to use the kitchen towel to absorb the water but in vain.  My elder brother try to help  by switching on the fan but it doesn’t make any difference. Later, I realised all the house’s windows were closed, no woder the house was stuffy and hot. I requested to open the windows to reduced the heat but was not allowed as to avoid mosquitoes from entering the house.......sob, sob...

I just stacked the cake on the board, trying to ignore the condensation, arranged the gumpaste flowers and completed my mission. After the cake had been arranged on the table, the guest started to take photos of the cake, click here and there. However, the cake still look very wet.....Overall, I am not satisfied on the look of the cake......... Thus far, my first VERY bad experience and its beyond my control......

Hantaran: Sabrina's 'Merisik' Ceremony

It was a rainy season and I am having problem to dry my gum paste flowers, butterflies and leaves. There’s no way the gum paste will get dry, high humidity will makes it even softer. The only way was to put into an air conditioner room.

These three small cakes were 5 inches square with different height. The theme colors were peach, blue and maroon with turquoise butterfly.

Her family also ordered cupcakes and carrot cake for guest.

Ideas for hantaran : Pillow and Tiara Cake

This was a “Hantaran” cake from a groom to the bride. He just gave me the theme color that was white and gold. He gave me freedom to come out with the idea and I considered the budget was a bit “lavish”. He was very pleased with the end product and I wish to have more clients like him……:)

Its nice to be appreciated, thank you.

Yes, all is edible.

Topsy Turvy Cake

I've attended the 3 days Wedding Cake Classes at ICCA, Dataran Sunway. This was the product that I design using all the technique that had been taught. Anyway there’s been a lot of mistake that I’ve done and many lesson learned. Nevertheless it has been quite good learning experience for me.

Che Mat's Engagement Ceremony

Che Mat’s Engagement – Hantaran Cake, The Red Roses.
Che Mat is my cousin from my mother’s side. His mother is my mom’s younger sister. We ( my siblings and I) have been calling him Che Mat since he was born and we totally forgotten his real name until I received his e-mail……
He had informed me more than a month before the event and since I had promised him to sponsor the cake, I had ample time to plan on what I wanted to do and the theme was silver and white.
I made three big red roses (one broken, have to take it out) and three small buds, a few sweet peas and berries (I forgot the name) I can say I had greatly improved in making the sugar roses and I still remembered my Facilitator/Trainer, Rosalind, told me “If possible all your sugar flowers must be ‘botanically correct’ so it will look lively, lovely and real”.
I used painting technique on the cake and a lot of edible luster silver dust. Do you know you can put this silver dust as a make-up if you are having a funky or retro party? Put on the eye lid, bling-bling, looks fantastic…….
Back to Che Mat, since the venue will be held somewhere in Temoh, Perak, more than 150 km away from Kota Damansara, I had to think of a cake and design that’s “durable” and able to withstand the weather since it will held at noon.
So, walla…as shown in the photo, a chocolate cake with fondant icing – I was very happy of the outcome. However, just a few kilometers before reaching the venue, we nearly met disaster when my sister, the driver, swerved the vehicle at a sharp corner, the cake slide in the box; luckily the cake board was large enough that acts as a stopper -lesson learned – must put an anti-slip rubber under the cake board too.
I managed to take a few snapshot of his fiancée, ……mmmm she looks like Che Mat la……
The event went well and lunch was superb – got Ikan masin (salted fish) with chillies, fried to perfection….yum, yum……should ask the host to “tapou”……

The Engagement Cake - Ivory color

This was the first time someone ordered an ivory engagement cake. Mmm…I had to “crack” my head what is the most suitable design. The product as shown, I was really happy the client love it and informed me he had never seen this type of design. Actually, I browsed the internet and find the “Patchwork” technique by Marion Frost. Her technique is very simple yet elegant and time saving.
