Small Pink Teapot Cake

Teapot Cake for a lovely lady from her husband and three teenage sons......

Conversation between me and one of the sons...

Me: Why do I have to deliver when she's alone in the house? (a bit of a busybody)

Son: We want to surprise her, and she thought we had forgotten her birthday .... she'll definitely will cry very emotionally......we will be home after 3 hours of your delivery.

Me: Why 3 hours? not 1 or 2 ?

Son: You will know.....

When I arrived, I pressed the door bell. I followed exactly what my client wanted me to do. Put the box on the table, open the cake box and with an enthusiasm tone I said, "Puan kek ni dari suami dan anak-anak puan, bagi pihak mereka...Selamat Hari Jadi!!!!....... (Madam, on behalf of you husband and sons, Happy Birthday!!!....)
First she looked at me blankly, then started to cry, streaming of tears.....she hugged me so tightly and at one point I felt I could barely breathe .......mmmm job hazard.

Tinkerbell

This cake design was inspired from a children book about  tinkerbell that lives in a teapot. I was commissioned to do a cake with a tinker bell figurine on the cake. Since it was quite tiresome to do a small figurine with gumpaste, I had decided just to look for a non-edible figurine. I browsed through the internet and managed to get a set of tinkerbell with friends. It were really pretty......
The figurine I ordered through www.WeddingDecoGift.com

Fantasy Teapot Cake

This was a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache fillings.

I received a call one day from an unknown lady who told me that she got my number while browsing through all the cake blog that she can found in Selangor. She was impressed with my previous works and she was confident that I can do the cake that she had in mind.

The cake was for a hantaran cake for her nephew's engagement. She had seen the teapot cake that I made years ago and she e-mailed a ceramic teapot and requested me to replicate it with the requested theme colors. Since the engagement was for another 1 month, I had ample time to plan.

The most crucial part doing this cake was the petals pieces that had to be really dried otherwise it would be easily broken.

I was amazed with myself, the blue petals really enhanced the overall look of the teapot. I sent the cake to her sister-in law's house.

To date, I never meet the lady in person, just through phone calls and e-mailed. Nevertheless, she "sms"ed me after the engagement ceremony by saying thanks for producing a good work of art. It really made my day.......

Ideas for hantaran: Teapot Cake

This teapot cake was inspired from my sister’s ceramic teapot collection - It’s a lotus teapot. A lot of planning was involved in the process of making the teapot.

First the cake was covered with a thin layer of white fondant and let it dry. To speed up the process I put it in an air conditioner room. This stage was crucial to enable the fondant to hold the “petals”. The “petals” was semi dry when I applied the colored dust. Then attached the “petals” from top to bottom. If the “petals” too soft it won’t curl very well, if it’s too dry it will breaks easily. Lastly, gold trimmings painted at the edge of the “petals”.

The “snout” of the teapot looks bulky when it was covered with fondant…not a good sight…
To compliment the teapot, I make the cup and saucer filled with cappuccino, and saucer with a piece of cake. This cake was for an engagement “hantaran”. During delivery I realized something missing………the spoon for the cake!!!!........
