Peacock Wedding Cake - Jessy Dass

I've done quite a number of peacock cakes and through time, my peacock cake looks much better, I also had find ways to simplify in making the peacock feathers.

This cake was for Ms Jessy Dass's Wedding, its quite a challenged when she wanted it to replicate exactly the peacock feathers colors.

Kolam in front of the hall way.
When I reached the venue, somewhere in Gombak, I was amazed at the "kolam" in front of the hall, a vibrant colors of a pair of peacock. Since I was a child I always amazed at my friend's mother, (Sorry, I'm reminisced to my childhood day - my friend's name Ms Manimagalai, her house just like 20 meters from our school) she makes the best chicken curry I've ever tasted. She makes the curry from scratch making a thick curry paste using the "batu gilling" (granite slabs and stone rollers for grounding chillies and spices).

She used to draw the "kolam" in front of the house, she do it free-hand, there's no "blue-print" as a guide, all in her head. Every week with different design.  My friend told me, if her mother in a good mood, there would be vibrant colors on the "kolam" otherwise it's just a plain white outline design.
I would like to thank Ms Jessy Dass, for e-mailing a few photos during her wedding and a few from a professional photographer - a vast difference from my amateurish photos.........

Wedding Cake - Siti Nur Aizat

When I reached the venue, Restoren Zam Zam Arabic Food, the hall section, it was quite late, only a few people left. I was caught in a Saturday night jam in Shah Alam, I only had 45 minutes to do the set-up. Aaargh!!!! where the cake table???. Where's the person-in-charge???. Nobody responded to my plea...............a few waitresses just stared at me blankly, mmm, they does not look like Malaysian.

"Kek letak di sini kot." (The cake should be on this ). I turned my back and saw someone pushing a cart towards me. He introduced himself as the official photographer of the event. Yeah, my saviour!!!.

Pink Peacock Wedding Cake - Ganez and Vani Wedding

Initially I was very hesitant to take this order, however the bride-to-be called me several time persuading me to do her wedding cake.

Logistic factor was the main reason of my hesitation. She wanted a three tier wedding cake with a peacock topper and the wedding will be held in Seremban, that is around 90 kilometers from Shah Alam. After giving her a few options on the cake, she still insisted on the three tier cake. She's willing to incurred the extra transportation charges which I think was quite high.

On the day of delivery, I was feeling quite weary may be due to lack of sleep. To avoid falling asleep while driving, I bought "asam boi" (a salty fruit preservative)  at one of the R & R along the highway, well not a healthy habit actually.

After one and a half hours, I reached the destination. Quite a havoc, contractors were still doing the setting-up. I managed to find the supervisor of the event, who I presumed was in a very stressful mode. There was a small commotion when the contractors could not find the cake table that suppose to be on the stage.........after 30 minutes they find the table!!!!, I had to wait another 20 minutes for them to find the table cloth and setting of the table. Then, I felt the stress of waiting!!!!.

Chocolate Wedding Cake

I really like the overall finished of this 3 tiered wedding cake. These were a 10 inches, 8 inches and 6 inches cake. The height of each cake was 4 inches.

These were moist chocolate cake, therefore its considered as soft cake, not suitable to be stacked.

The cakes were adorned with purple roses as requested by client, with leaves and tendrils falls beside the cake.

White Wedding Cake - Shima

This 3 tiered wedding cake was for Shima's soleminization ceremony. It was held in a quaint and small club house. When I reached the club house, there were only 3 children, below 12 years olds, with 2 adults  , I guessed from the catering contractors awaiting at the club house. I asked them where is the cake table, they have no idea at all. One of the children informed me that everybody were in the mosque attending the solemnization ceremony.

I just put all the boxes on one of the table and started setting-up the cake. While setting-up, the children just can't resisted touching the butter cream, OMG!!! I had to repair a few spots, that had delayed substantially the proses of setting-up.  They requested to taste the butter cream, as usual, (I have done this so many times) I asked them to hold out their tongue and I piped a dallop of butter cream on their tongue.......well, it does not look hygenic,  at least these children will stop bothering me.

While piping little dots on the top tiered, suddenly the main door opened!! the solemnization had over and a stream of guests started coming in. I just stopped and cleaned the table. One of the lady that came in earlier showed me the place for the cake and we carried the cake on the designated  area. I thought of finishing the little dots on the other tiers but I find it impossible to do it.

Wedding Cake - Shades of Yellow

This three tiered wedding cake was for my cousin's wedding held at Sungai Siput, Perak. So I have to bring this cake separately and set-up at the venue and my brother, Sabri, was the appointed driver. I told him tried to avoid sudden brakes, not to go into potholes, and goes slowly when there humps/bumps, as usual, being himself, he did not take heed of what I requested.  After more than 2 hours ride, we reached the destination, I open the cake box, 60% of the flowers dropped!!!!! Arrghh..........I took a few deep breath. He looked at me and said " Instead of spring season cake, you change the concept to fall, you just spread the flowers around the cake, there you have it!!! I have solve your problem". Sometimes, how I wish I can.........him. But that "act" is forbidden.

I carried the cake to the table and fortunately, I brought extra royal icing to "glue" the flowers into position. It was very tedious and time consuming, however, I am being blessed with two wonderful sister-in-laws that gave a helping hand.
About my cousin, the groom, Syed Ahmad Thamrini also known as Che Tam, he's an English lecturer. His has strong resemblance with his late father,  Syed Namat, who was an English teacher in a small  quaint kampung. His late father like to converse English with my sister and I when we visited our Opah  (grandmother). I  remember vividly, being a twelve years old, I just "bulldozed" when I spoke English with him. At times he will corrected by grammar and he said my English sound like the "Chinese Kampung English"!!!, hey! blame on my "environment" , my class was predominantly consisted of Chinese Hokkien and there were only 5 Malays out of 30 plus Chinese and 1 indian.

Back to my cake, overall the cake turn out alright.

A very pretty cake, this was a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache fillings, very simple yet elegant.

Shahiza's Wedding Cake

This was a three tiered cake, a 9 inch dark chocolate, 7 inch white chocolate and a 6 inch dome to accentuate the height.
Chocolate truffles and chocolate decorations with contrasting colors, white and pink loved shaped royal icing as an ensemble to enhance the overall decoration.
I tried to set-up a few of the white chocolate decorations to the cake earlier before delivery at site; however the warm weather does not allowed it. The white chocolate decorations just “curved” its way to gravity.
By the time I reached the venue, it was already 6.30 pm, Alhamdulillah, the temperature had cooled down. I was glad everything turn-up well except for the workers/contractors were also busy setting up the tent, the PA system, table and chairs, sound of hammer everywhere, very chaotic, I had to move the cake frequently to allow the workers/contractors to do the table skirting. The workers keep on saying to me…..Sori kak, sori kak, with a Bangla twang.

Sahlawati's Wedding

3 Tiered Wedding Cake – Basket Weave
Initially she requested cake with fondant icing but I advice her for butter cream cake because the event was held outdoor (typical Malay kampong with many trees) and probability of raining in December was high. High humidity will make the fondant “sticky” and it doesn’t look good. In fact it was drizzling when I reached her house somewhere in Banting. Weather plays an important role in any event, certain cakes may look nice in pictures but come actual day, it may not look nice especially in our country where humidity is very high. Thus it is vital that this is bought up during discussions.

Token to the Groom’s Family
Sahlawati ordered chocolate cupcakes as a token to the groom’s family for her “nikah” ceremony.

Sahlawati’s Hantaran (Heart shaped)
This hantaran was a gift to the groom during their wedding ceremony at the groom’s house.

Groom's cake

Groom's Cake, 3-Tiered
The Groom wanted a chocolate cake. He chooses the design in the “Wilton Wedding Cake – A Romantic Portfolio”, page 41.
So I don’t have to crack my head for the design, just copy.
The making of the three tiered wedding cake
A few days before the decoration prepare the rosette and let it dry.
1. Cake size 14 inches, 10 inches and 6 inches. Prepare the cake, torte, and each layer filled with chocolate ganache. Each tier’s height was 4 inches; therefore overall height of the whole construction was 12 inches.
2. “Crumb Coat’ the cake with butter cream and cling wrap and put in the fridge. The cake was prepared one day before the decoration.
3. Fully thawed the cake, rolled yellow fondant and cover the cake.
4. Shape fondant to sides of the cake.
5. Make pattern for scallops overlays (white colour)
6. Make scallops drapes, attached with water and brush overlays.
7. Rosettes were attached between each scallops points.
8. Dowels were inserted in the 1st and 2nd tier cake.
9. Completed cake.
10. Doing finishing touches at site.
11. The bride and groom cutting the cake.

Tis' a season to tie the knot!

Instead of the normal traditional white-buttercream or cakes-that-made-out-of-styroform, why not have a Chocolate Wedding Cakes instead. Usually during weddings, guest don't get to taste the wedding cakes but so far, with SeenFullySedap cakes, its the bride and the groom that didn't get the chance to even get a bite. And that record has never been broken. Guess next time, put someone nearby the cake and guard it for the couple =p Our cake is THAT good!!!

Info about the picture above:
¨ This was a three kilo chocolate cake. The chocolate ganache toppings will makes the cake heavier; therefore the top tier usually will be a dummy cake or a few small sized cupcakes.
¨ In this event the bride and groom only have a chance to have a photo shoot while cutting the cake and they have been immediately shoved away by the bride’s parent to introduce them to a VIP guest.
¨ When the event was over they realized they don’t even get the taste of the cake. One month after the event, Auntie Habsah gave them a half kilo chocolate cake as complimentary gift. =)
Ps:- Orders for Majlis Keramaian, or Events must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance. Subject to availability. To avoid dissapointments, make your bookings early!!
