Birdcage Engagement Cake / Kek Sangkar Burung
This cake was for my nephew's engagement cake, Mior Asrani. First, when I sketched the cake on paper and figure out the measurements of the cake, I did not take into consideration of the cake had to endure traveling 300km. The ceremony will be held at Tanjung Piandang, where you can view paddy fields a far as the eyes can see.
While baking the cake then the thought surface.....but too late to change the design........have to take the risk.....
While baking the cake then the thought surface.....but too late to change the design........have to take the risk.....
It was a chocolate cake that measured 9 inches tall with 6 inches in diameter. When I had done the decoration, I felt it will be a disaster if its collapsed during delivery. The worst part of it, I had forgotten to put a wooden rod in the middle of the cake to reinforce its stability....arghhhh!!!
However, thank God the cake survived the journey and in the hot Malaysian June weather .......
It was reaching near 40 degrees Celsius on midday, luckily it was just a short distance towards the bride-to-be's house.

Pillow Cake - Purple and Pink
This will be my last post before I'll be off to Jeddah.
Actually this Pillow Cake should be Dark Purple fondant but my cheap-skate camera always gave me Dark Blue, do know why, I guess something to do with the light, though the hydrangeas and the ribbons around the board looks the correct purple.
I've yet to do my packing for tomorrow morning flight ..........aaa komeng nga!!!!...(in Cantonese means help)

Baju Kebaya Cake
I really enjoyed decorating this cake,
maybe it sort like a challenged for me to practice my royal icing
pipping. What is Baju Kebaya? see below for my blog reader who are not
from South East Asia.

I have a few pairs of Baju Kebayas |
A Kebaya is a traditional blouse-dress combination that originates from Indonesia and worn by women in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Burma, Singapore, southern Thailand. It is sometimes made from sheer material such as silk, thin cotton or semi-transparent nylon or polyester adorned with brocade or floral pattern embroidery. Kebaya usually worn with a sarong or batik kain panjang, or other traditional woven garment such as ikat, songket with a colorful motif.

Baju Melayu Cekak Musang Cake - Munirah's gift to the Groom
I was commissioned to do a Baju Melayu Cake by Ms Munirah, that is the folded version not a full length Baju Melayu. What is Baju Melayu? Please see below.....(for my blog reader who are not from the South East Asia).
This was a chocolate cake covered with fondant. I think, what makes this Baju Melayu looks authentic was the 5 buttons that adorned the dress. I make a small pearl painted with pearl sheen color ( of course an edible paint) on a small gold plate, just look like my late father's Baju Melayu buttons. I vividly remember he always lost a button every year (he usually used these buttons twice a year) until my late mother tied all these buttons along with one string so it will not gone missing again.
Baju Melayu is a traditional Malay outfit for men. It
literally translates as 'Malay shirt' and consists of two main parts. The first
being the baju (long sleeved shirt) itself which has a raised stiff
collar known as the cekak musang collar (literally fox's lease). The
second part is the trousers. The two parts are made out of the same type of
fabric which is usually silk, cotton, or a mixture of polyester and cotton. A
skirt-type adornment is also commonly worn with the Baju Melayu, which is
either the "kain samping", made out of songket cloth or the kain sarung, made out of cotton
or a polyester mix. Both are loops of fabric which are folded around the
wearer's waist. A jet-black or dark coloured headgear called the songkok can
also worn to complete the attire. (extract from Wikipedia)

Pillow Cake - Mustard Yellow Color with Peonies
This yellow mustard pillow cake sort like a short notice order. The hydrangeas were not fully hardened when I placed it beside the cake, a few broken petals can be easily seen.

Engagement Cake - White Floral Motifs with Blue
My client showed me a photo to give me some ideas what she's really wanted the cake looks like. However, she wanted white with sky blue color combinations. She gave me the sample of the blue color that was on the lighter side. I informed her the floral motifs might not be outstanding because the colors lack of contrast. Since these colors were her engagement theme colors, requesting her to change to royal blue was out of the question.
Then it just stroked my mind using blue sheen color, where I never try before. Since I got ample time, I experimented a few ways to make the floral motifs outstanding. Choosing the correct floral motifs too is important so it won't look overcrowded.
This was a 6 inches love-shaped chocolate cake. Very pretty!!!

Car Cake - Hantaran Siti Nur Aizat
This car was 12 inches lengthwise, smaller than usual, reason, to accommodate the "hantaran" tray size. I discovered it was very challenging because all the accessories of the car were very tiny.

Boxes of Flowers -Mr Mikael's
I was commissioned to make a hantaran cake for Mr. Mikael's wedding. Actually his friend, Ms Shalieza who ordered or I presumed she sponsored the cake. She went through my blog and not really sure what she wanted, end up, she gave me freedom to create whatever I fancy, she just gave her budget and the theme color. Since she gave me more than 2 weeks lead time, I have ample time to plan what I wanted to do. All these gum paste flowers, the roses and the hydrangeas, were handmade. Actually, I'm quite surprised myself, the overall decoration of the cake was absolutely magnificent.........( Soon I'll post Mr. Mikael's wedding photo)
